Tips for Saving Money Online: Part 1

Coupon Codes

Coupon codes are one of the biggest reasons for shopping online. Virtually every  big website uses coupon codes to give you an additional discount on items, or free shipping. These coupon codes can be found on blogs/forums through Google, or on RetailMeNot.com, which has a large selection of codes posted from numerous websites. They also have an app where you can save your favorite codes.

Exclusive Shopping Websites

These websites require an invitation to join, but are actually very easy to gain access to. These websites offer a vast selection of items at large discounts, but you have to be quick. These websites let you add items to your cart but will only “reserve” them for you for an allotted amount of time, usually 10-20 minutes, and will then be available to the public again. Sales also occur at certain times, announced a day in advance, and items are first-come-first-serve. For international shoppers, most of these websites make you pay an “import fee” (an estimate of the duty/tax) in advance, and will refund you the difference if the amount charged was less than you paid. Unfortunately, this can make great deals not so great, but still worth it. Some examples of these websites are MyHabit.com (operated by Amazon), Gilt.com, and BeyondTheRack.com (Canadian website.)

Department Store Style Websites

These are my favorite and most-used. These websites offer numerous items, just like you would find at a department store. Amazon.com is the most well-known of these websites, but it is not always the best option – especially if you’re looking for clothes. My personal favorites are RevolveClothing.com and ShopBop.com. Revolve Clothing always has available coupon codes for 10-20% off, free international shipping, and 30% off for new customers. ShopBop also has free international shipping and offers a wide-range of designer items. Other options are NeimanMarcus.com, Overstock.com, and Bloomingdales.com. These are American websites that offer shipping to Canada and have a good range of products at good prices. For very high-end items, Net-A-Porter.com is a great website as well.

Local Online Boutiques

I have found that some of the smaller local stores’ websites sometimes offer great deals, especially on sale items. For example, I found the best deal for a winter jacket I was looking for from a small online sports shop in Quebec. Googling the item you’re looking for and doing some digging can lead to great finds.

In fact, go and look at some new jeans this week. I always see older guys wearing michael kors mk5216 totally unfashionable jeans, and it’s one of the most obvious indicators that they have an old, out-of-touch mentality.

I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the page layout
of your site? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could
connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m always looking for ways to improve. I’m likely going to be changing the layout a few different times to see what works best. I’ve been pretty focused on content and will definitely try to make things look more appealing :)
