Uniqlo Review: The Clothes and the Store

You may or may not have heard of Uniqlo, they’re a bit difficult to find in North America (though they do have a few locations in New York and opening more in California). Uniqlo is a Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer. They’ve been taking Asia and parts of Europe by storm with their unique approach to casual clothes. Over the next few years, they are going to be expanding to many more countries (just today they announced their plans to open locations in Australia this year), and will likely become one of the largest clothing companies in the world.

On my recent trip to Europe, I visited Uniqlo and picked up a couple of pretty cool items. The most notable was their “Heattech” t-shirts. These are super soft, thin shirts that can be worn on their own or under clothes to keep you super warm by absorbing moisture from your body and converting it to heat. This sounds kind of gross and weird, but the fabric is specialized so it doesn’t ever smell bad and keeps you feeling dry and clean. I was skeptical, but I picked one up and put it to the test out on some chilly days in London. I was actually shocked at how well it worked, it really kept me very warm with just a t-shirt over it. My fiancé got one as well and had the same reaction. After a few days, I realized this seemingly basic t-shirt was something I couldn’t live without and went back to buy 2 more as well as the leggings that use the same technology.

Uniqlo also has some pretty cool items, such as down winter coats that are incredibly lightweight and fold down into a tiny bag that could fit into a purse for travel. Needless to say, I was impressed. This is clearly a store we could use here in Canada! I checked out their website, and they ship to the US, UK, Asia, and parts of Europe right now. Hopefully their expansions into different countries will mean more shipping options as well. While I haven’t ordered from their website, I can recommend the clothes highly. I tried on many different items and was extremely impressed with their quality and price. My fiancé said the same for the men’s items as well. So, if you haven’t checked out Uniqlo yet, head to their website and check it out!

Happy Shopping!
